Fundraising Readiness Diagnostic

Your mission deserves
a digital presence that works as hard as you do

Most nonprofit websites are built to tell the organization’s story. Few are built to convert that story into donors, sustainers, and institutional credibility. The FRD identifies the gap — and tells you exactly where to close it first.

Only 0.16% of nonprofit website visitors donate in any given session. The first impression determines whether the other 99.84% leave with enough trust to return.

A diagnostic. Not an audit.

What the F.R.D. is

//

What the F.R.D. is //

An audit tells you what exists. A diagnostic tells you what’s working, what’s failing, why it’s failing, and what it’s costing your mission.

The Fundraising Readiness Diagnostic evaluates your nonprofit’s digital presence against one question: is this site doing its fundraising job? For each of your donor audiences. At each stage of their relationship with your organization.

Every finding is classified by signal tier and readiness tag — so you know which gaps are actively costing you donors right now, which are structural, and which ones to fix first. With or without a developer.

The average nonprofit donation page converts at 12%. A well-optimized page can reach 19%+. That gap, on 1,000 monthly visitors, is 70 lost donations.

Two deliverables.
One conversation.

The Lite Assessment Overview surfaces the five to seven highest-leverage findings from your assessment, classified by signal tier and organized by priority. Delivered as a structured report and slide overview.

The delivery conversation is where findings get context. Most clients find that one conversation after the assessment is worth more than the document itself — because findings without pattern recognition is just a list.

Who it is for

Built for the nonprofit leader who wears every hat.

The FRD is designed for executive directors at small to mid-size nonprofits — organizations with $500K to $5M in annual fundraising revenue, an established website, and a leadership team that suspects their digital presence is underperforming but hasn’t had the time or expertise to diagnose exactly where.

No agency relationship required. No analytics access required. No technical background required. The FRD works from what’s publicly visible.

What It Is Not

Not a UX diagnostic. Not a design review. Not a technical report.

The FRD is a fundraising performance diagnostic. Where UX or design failures are directly suppressing donations, they appear as findings. Where they exist independently of fundraising impact, they are noted but not prioritized.

If you need a full UX audit or site redesign, we can discuss a combined engagement scope.

Fundraising Readiness Diagnostic

The window before your peak season is the best time to run this.

Every week you wait is a week your giving season gets closer with the same gaps.

Most nonprofits raise the majority of their annual revenue in Q3 and Q4 — Hunger Action Month, Giving Tuesday, Holiday campaigns, and Year-end campaigns. The organizations that perform best during those months don’t start preparing in October. They start in summer, when the pace is slower, the team has capacity, and there’s still time to close the gaps that matter. The Fundraising Readiness Diagnostic (FRD) is designed to be run before your peak season, not during it. A Critical finding that takes two weeks to fix in July becomes an active revenue problem in November. An optimized donation page that goes live in August is earning for you through the entire fall campaign season. If you’re reading this between May and August: this is the window. The diagnostic takes five business days. The fixes it surfaces are typically executable in weeks, not months. By the time your giving season arrives, the gaps are closed.

What is your digital presence actually producing?

Most nonprofit leaders have a feeling that their website is underperforming. The FRD gives that feeling a name, a tier, and a priority order. Request an assessment and find out where your highest-leverage gap is.

Why this diagnostic exists

Sample Fundraising Readiness Diagnostic (FRD) for illustration purposes.

I've spent the better part of two decades helping nonprofits raise money. Not as a creative director who observes from a distance. As a practitioner who told the stories, designed the donation pages, and watched what moved people to give and what didn't.

What I saw consistently: organizations with genuine missions and urgent work, held back by digital assets that never fully fundraised. Not broken, exactly. Just never fully aimed at the people who needed to hear from them most.

The Fundraising Readiness Diagnostic (FRD) exists because that gap is fixable and because most of the organizations who need it most can't afford the engagement that would typically close it.

I built this to scale what I've learned across more than twenty years of observing human behavior. The recognized patterns are now in the hands of the leaders who are doing the work and can leverage them to maximize impact.

Common Questions

How is this different from a generic website audit?

Generic audits check technical health — page speed, SEO, broken links. The Fundraising Readiness Diagnostic (FRD) checks whether your site is actually moving donors to action. Those are different diagnoses. A site can be technically sound and strategically broken at the same time. The FRD finds the second kind of problem.

Why not hire an agency?

Agency engagements for this type of strategic work typically start at $3,000 and scale to $15,000 or more. The FRD is $750 and gives you the clarity to know whether a larger engagement is the right next move — and exactly what that engagement should address.

What about platform audits — Blackbaud, Bloomerang, Donorbox?

Platform audits optimize how you use a specific tool. The FRD assesses whether your digital strategy is sound in the first place — across your full presence, independent of which platforms you use. It’s a different layer of analysis.
